ICT has made a tremendous impact on the entire planet in every view, entertainments, economy, finance, documents, anything you can think of. Working on computers is much more efficient because instead of writing the letters, drawing designs or calculating, you simply press a key and the job is done for you! And since there’s the spell check option, it is almost impossible to miss-spell a word and also checks your grammar, therefore you do not have to worry about your punctuations, spelling and a little of grammar, it’s not like you can completely forget about grammar, you still need some language skills. Other than being more efficient, it’s also much neater work and you no longer need to have piles of papers/folders on your desk, they are all stored on the computer’s memory and you can send and receive things right at your seat.
Working Style
Most jobs in the 20th century require a qualification of some kind in ICT. Employees would need to be trained to use ICT to go far in their career. For example, in a bank, all the customers’ personal information needs to be stored on to a database and saved, so the employees would need to know how to use this database. People use computers for many reasons. For one, computers are more productive, and they are easy to use and helps make the employees get their work down quickly. Companies use computer databases so that they don’t have to write down all the customer information and so that it is easier to find. ICT is also helpful when it comes to delivery work. Satellite Navigation Systems can be used when the employees are delivering packages to houses and other businesses. The Sat Nav will show and tell the employee where to go, and also calculates the amount of time that it will take to get to their destination. Another technological advantage to delivery work, are PDAs. A PDA is a mobile device, and it functions as a personal information manager and also connects to the internet. When the parcel has been delivered, the customer needs to sign in the touch screen box, with a little pen on the PDA. This is to confirm the delivery and lets the company know that the right person has received the parcel. The PDA is an advantage because if all the customers had to sign on paper to confirm the delivery, then it would take a long time to make sure that the right customer received the package.
Entertainments and leisure
ICT has impacted entertainment and leisure by enhancing the different ways in which we casually spend our time. With the use of these technologies, they ways in which we can entertain ourselves has dramatically increased.
The development of these technologies has meant that many people stay inside, watch TV, play online games etc. Therefore you could say that the amount of leisure activities that people do have decreased, with respect to the wide range of entertainment technologies.
It has become much easier to get what you want, there is no need to go to stores any more to buy music or any other products because now you can just stay home and download anything you desire on your computer online for free and even those that require payments, you can create an account, inputting your personal information and the payment will be completed right at your seat and get what you want in an instant.

Communication
Before the internet, the only way to communicate with someone is face to face or over the phone. If you had to write to someone, you had to send a mail over to their place. We were content with that. However, we look back at it now, we are pretty limited.
Now, the internet has somewhat merged the three forms of communication together. Instead of mailing a letter, a lot of people email each other. It is a lot quicker than the other way. A lot of people now communicate through texts. Now, thanks to Skype, you can have video chats over the internet with. Social Networking has contributed a lot to this change. A lot of friends are keeping up with each other on platforms like Facebook. The internet has also gone mobile. You now have phones that are computers which can surf the web and communicate through various methods.
The internet has revolutionized a lot in the world. Communication is one medium that has definitely been influenced by the invention of the internet. A lot of people can stay in touch with each other even if they move miles apart from each other thanks to the World Wide Web.

For many of us, communicating with family used to mean sending letters and cards through the mail and getting no response until weeks later. We'd pass hand-written notes to friends in class. We'd pick up the telephone—paying for long-distance calls, no less—and could only talk to one person at a time. On top of that, there were no answering machines to leave messages if a person wasn't home, or Caller ID to screen calls if we didn't feel like picking up the phone. And pay phones were the only option to call home if our car broke down on the side of the road, or if we had to stay after school.
For the past decade or so, technology has transformed the way we communicate, in part due to the advent of the Internet. Instead of mailing letters, we're writing e-mails through Gmail or Windows Live Hotmail that can be sent instantaneously to a recipient. We can even add multiple recipients to these e-mails, so that more than one person can read them. Even more, we can send greeting cards over the Web with sites like someecards.com andGroupCard.com. No postage needed!
Sending a note to a friend can be done in a matter of seconds through instant message clients like AOL instant messenger and Meebo. With them, we can see if a "buddy" is available or away, talk to multiple people at a time, "wink" and "sigh" using emoticons, ignore a message if we don't feel like talking, and send links to our favorite Web articles and videos.

We are no longer bound to long-distance charges, either. Many folks have already kicked their landline phones to the curb and replaced them with Voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) and mobile phones. We can place free video calls (yes, we can see the person we're talking to) to anyone in the world over the Internet by using Skype and a headset. For a monthly paid service we can make regular phone calls over the Internet using the popular Vonage service or signing up for VoIP through our cable company.
Mobile phones have become a godsend, letting us place calls no matter where we are—on the way to work, at the beach, at school, etc. Even text messaging has become an efficient way to get a short message across, such as "Meet you there at 8" or "I'll be home late."
It's true that technology has also made society somewhat impersonal. Here at PC Magazine we communicate with each other mostly through e-mail and instant message. As a result, it's difficult to tell when a person is serious or sarcastic—our clever turns of phrase can easily be misconstrued. Technology tends to make communication drag out more than it has to, too; sometimes it's quicker to just get out of your seat and walk to the person, or simply pick up the phone.
Even worse, younger generations have forgotten how to spell and write complete sentences due to the increased use of text messaging on mobile phones. The State Examination Commission out of Dublin, Ireland said in a report that in many cases, teenagers seemed "unduly reliant on short sentences, simple tenses, and a limited vocabulary" and that with the use of phonetic spelling and little or no punctuation; it's beginning to pose a threat to traditional conventions in writing, not to mention oral communication.
In addition, we've seen how addicted people can become to their smartphones, like the Apple iPhone and the BlackBerry Storm 9530. (You've probably heard the term for it: "Crack Berry.") People possess an obsessive need to constantly check their e-mail, even when on vacation with the family. It's as if we're afraid we'll miss something important or be out of the loop. If there isn't a group for BlackBerry addicts, there should be.

Banking and shopping
Today with the internet so readily accessible to us, more and more people are turning to online shopping for all their needs. Clothes, shoes, products, even groceries can now are purchased via the internet. A lot of pros have come from this; no waiting in lines or in traffic, you can shop from the convenience of your home in your pajamas, easier to do comparison shopping, discounts, you can shop at ANY time, etc. We all know we have our own reasons for shopping online. Online furniture stores are also increasing in popularity, and will continue to increase as the internet grows. Many people even purchase their sofas and other home furnishing from the comfort of their home now. With that said, here is some food for thought before you click and buy.
-You can search for exactly what you’re looking for. There are many online stores who specialize in a certain type of sofa or style that you may be looking for. If you love knowing the newest styles, or having unique pieces then online shopping makes it easier to do so.
- Instead of driving around wasting gas or spending hours on the bus in travel time you can visit all the stores that you’re interested in. This eliminates time going from store to store to see what is available, and at what price.
- Easier to find discounts on the sofa you’re looking for by googling, going on EBay, Amazon and many other websites out there offering deals. Online stores usually offer online specials as well and there are multiple websites dedicated to sharing these deals with you.
- You usually have to wait long periods of time to receive your sofa. Sometimes, this can even take up to a month or longer if being shipped from overseas. There could be delays on the delivery, or miscommunication and you can’t go to the store or get in contact with someone face to face. Usually, there is no one to ease your frustration about any delays that occur.
- Shipping costs on your item can be extremely high in comparison to what you paid for the sofa, sometimes making the purchase not worth it.
- You do not get to test the product before you buy it. Sometimes looks can be deceiving. What might have looked beautifully to you in picture might not live up to your standards once received. Then what?
- If it’s an online store that doesn’t have a local store in your area, returning the sofa will be a HUGE hassle. Make sure before you purchase online that you are clear on the stores return policies. Make sure, that no matter how good the deal is that you have the option to return if need be. You wouldn’t want to spend 500+ dollars on a sofa you can’t bring back…would you?
- Another factor to remember about returns. You will have to pay the charge for shipping it back, repackaging, and stocking in most cases, unless it’s a manufacturing problem.
- People worry about fraud or theft with credit cards purchases. Make sure every website you shop from is security verified secure and protected and has this information displayed clearly on their website. Also, read the privacy policy on the website to see what they will do with your information. Do anything to make you feel secure, and know you're dealing with a reputable business. If something doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t. Hit your home button and restart your search.
In my opinion, I think online shopping is great. I’ve grown an increase interest in doing most of my shopping online because of its convenience, no rush, and because you view everything in one place. The internet is your shopping mall! Buying furniture online is also great for that exact reason, multiple furniture stores at the click of a button. However, I think getting the feel for your sofa is VERY important. At Modern Sensibility we always encourage everyone to come to the store and sit on the sofas to see if they like them or not. Many people are pickier than others and seeing the furniture online may seem like a good idea to them at first, but then they receive it and it’s a big disaster. Now, add the frustration of exchange/returns on a sofa you’re not happy with spells bigger disaster! I think that’s the only drawback. Other than that, online shopping is fun, convenient way to shop. My only advice is be safe, be smart and make sure you’re buying from a reputable website. Do your research just like you would any other store.
Online banking can simply be defined as the process of entering into transactions by a particular client and the bank using modern technology. Not only will the bank online require you to submit documents but also to provide special power of attorney in cases where you want to do transactions together with your spouse. A concrete example is when you want to manage all your wealth and resources together as a couple and you wish to view it online. Certain technical procedures regarding online banking may be taxing too and complicated.
§ Another disadvantage is the so-called learning curve. This means, banking online especially in locating the sites may be complicated and hard to find.
§ Another disadvantage is bank site changes. If this occurs, the bank will require you to re-enter all your information again and other related data.
§ Finally is the trust aspect. Online banking should be entered very carefully if you wish to enjoy your financial life.
Employment opportunities
Online recruitment is cost effective. Putting a job vacancy on your own company website costs you nothing while putting one on a job board usually only costs a couple of hundred pounds or euros. When you consider that a recruitment consultant fee for a candidate could be anything up to 20% of the first year’s salary, and that advertising in a national newspaper can cost thousands, you can immediately see the cost savings possible with online recruitment.

![Picture](/uploads/1/8/1/2/18121383/3639667.png)
Online recruitment is quick. A job vacancy can be put on a job site in the morning, the first applications arrive by lunchtime, and a candidate interviewed by the end of the day. Of course, it isn’t always like this. It isn’t even often like this. But the fact that such things do happen so quickly gives an indication of just how quick recruiting online can be.
Online recruitment gives you a better chance of success. Traditional print advertising — be it national, local or trade press — faces limitations: the success of a vacancy advertisement depends on people happening upon the ad on a particular page in a particular issue. Online recruitment is different. A job vacancy advertisement on a job board or website is there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for as long as you desire. Candidates can come back to it again and again. And from office administrator to Financial Director: they are all online.
Online recruitment gives you a bigger audience. Many people new to online recruitment think it is only effective if you are looking for young net-savvy Facebook-type people. This simply isn’t the case. Research consistently shows that the average age of candidates using online recruitment channels is around 35 years old. And the trend is up. Online recruitment is now a standard part of most people’s job hunting no matter what level or age.
Online recruitment is easy. Posting a job on your own site is straightforward enough. Most job sites and CV databases are very user-friendly and you don’t need to have an in-depth knowledge of IT to post a vacancy advertisement. Usually, all you need is your job description, a bit of time and a credit card. And, if you have any problems the job board sales team is there to help you. It’s even easier to post a job on Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook — and they are free.
Too many candidates. While you may wonder how too many candidates applying for your job could ever count as a disadvantage, it is a fact that dealing with inappropriate, irrelevant and bad candidates is the bugbear of many a HR manager. Candidate spam can waste a lot of time. However, with a bit of thought about what job site you use, how you write your job description and using candidate screening and filtering tools on job boards, it is possible to reduce the number irrelevant applicants.
It won’t always work. That’s right. Online recruitment won’t always work. Not every job vacancy you post can or will be filled online. There will always be difficult-to-fill jobs that can only be filled by recruitment consultants, headhunters or in other ways. However, most companies tend to hire for pretty standard job roles so this is seldom an issue. And with more and more job seekers choosing the web to look for jobs, and more and more job sites and job boards specializing in ever more wide variety areas, those difficult-to-fill jobs are becoming fewer and fewer
To conclude, online recruitment offers clear advantages over traditional recruitments methods. At the same time, however, one must be aware of the disadvantages inherent in online recruitment if only to avoid the pitfalls that they may produce.
I have made a questionnaire asking 4 different sorts of people about the path of technology improvement and whether they find computers useful.
The questions are:
1. Do you agree that computers has made big improvements to the use of everyday, and why?
2. What sort of technology needs to be improved?
3. Name 2 technologies that you greatly benefit from, why do you use them?
4. Do you like the path the technology is improving? Is it too much?
5. Do you have any sort of new technology in mind that you would like to be invented and sold out to the public?
I found a guy who seems to be a businessman since he was in a suit and was alone at the café on a laptop. Asking him these questions, he replied:
1. “Yes definitely! Without computers the globe would not be as it is at the moment. Probably half of the companies around the world may not have even existed. Working with computers has greatly increased the process of production which therefore increased money-making which lead to making a wider range of technologies since people are interested and are buying. And due to multi-national companies, much more currencies exchange has been made which has raised many countries’ currency value (due to higher demand). Furthermore, since internet was invented, we are now able to buy things that are not available in local stores, so internet gave a much wider varieties to buy from stores that may even be on the other side of the planet and yet you can get what you want immediately if it is a software of any sort, or maybe a couple of days or weeks if it’s a physical product that is needed to be transported to your door.”
2. “I would say internet speed so we can use internet calls/video conferencing for meetings to allow a much smoother communication. Otherwise I’m happy with the current technology.”
3. “– Microsoft office, as a business man, you can’t really work without something like Microsoft office, especially excel which is greatly needed for any business companies for their finance work or Word document where all the information of a company can be stored in a safe place where it won’t be lost.
-Communication is essential! Without it, businesses would have major delay with trading, importing and exporting products and getting the work done.”
4. “Yes, I’m quite happy with the improvements made so far because it has made our lives so much easier, most of the things can now be done in the office instead or walking all over the place to get the simplest things that may just be a waste of time. Though I would suggest on trying to improve the internet speed because this will greatly improve the video and sound quality of our conferences with other companies communicating through internet.”
